I feel like the problem with fan culture being so confined to journals is I liked the idea of community. I remember interacting with someone about the Ginger Snaps films and how I liked the sequels, he hated them (at the time. I've caught up with him on that one). All limiting fan interaction will do is keep them in that bubble.
