This was interesting to read because I'm not at all familiar with the landscape of LJ or earlier DW. It's interesting to get your perspective about why communities have kind of fallen to the wayside. I suppose it could also be the case that a lot of people don't understand how to interact or navigate them cause they've not encountered anything similar online. I know I've never had any blog site that also allowed for communities, so I think I avoid posting in them more out of not understanding the etiquette.
